John Brooks lives and works in Stourbridge in the West Midlands.

 Born in Sheffield in 1954 where, at the age of 18 he attended Sheffield Poly. School of Art and Design.Moved on to Stourbridge College of Art (a small, independent college which has now, sadly, ceased to exist) wherehe obtained a Bachelor of Art Degree in Fine Art (Painting and Drawing) under the tutorship of Barry Cook, John Mitchell, Reg Ashton, Paul Rosenbloome and Steve Cox. After completing his degree in 1976 he continued painting whilst working as a Sewer Surveyor and lorry driver before moving on and obtaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Art Education from Birmingham University in 1978. He then taught art for the next 29 years at G.C.S.E, A1, A2 and Pre- Degree levels.

During the 80’s he also worked as a group leader taking young adults overland to Russia via Eastern Europe.

John always tried to continue painting whilst teaching but the demands and pressures of the job made that very difficult.

Finally, in Jan 2007,he made the big decision to give up a quite lucrative job and pursue his ‘ideal’ of painting full time. This is a decision he has never regretted.

He has sold his work all over the U.K (and Ireland) and has had work on display at the ‘Lodge’, South Bank Hospital in Worcester, Joe Petrillo’s in West Didsbury Manchester and the Carrot gym, Stourbridge.
